The name Ayalon is derived from the Hebrew word Ayal, meaning 'deer or gazelle'. The Valley of Ayalon, according to Bible is where Joshua uttered the famous command, "Sun, stand thou still on Gibeon: and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon" (Josh. 10:12).
