Grave of Oscar Schindler
Not everyone knows that Steven Spielberg's hollywood clasic, "Schindler's List" (1993, won 7 Oscars) was based on a real hero. Oscar Schindler (1908-1974) was a German businessman and a member of Hitler's Nazi party who saved 1200 Polish Jews from the dreadful gas chambers during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. Interestingly, the original list of the 1200 Jews he saved was discovered accidentally only in 1999 from Germany ! Before the WWII, the Jewish population of Poland was 3,500,000 and after holocaust only 3000 survived! He spent millions to protect and save his Jews, everything he possessed and died penniless. Today there are 7,000 descendants of Schindler's Jews living in many parts of the world. His grave is in the catholic cemetery in Mount Zion , Jerusalem .
