In 1873, Meyuchas family built their homes here after leaving the duty of guarding the Old City walls. Their house here is believed to be the first Jewish residence built in the City of David after many centuries. The caves identified here are identified as the tombs of the House of David, where according to Bible several of the Jewish kings were burried. However, there are no strong archaeological evidence to prove such an assumption.
