The pool in the city of David, outside the walls of Jerusalem, is where Jesus gave sight to the man born blind (John 9:1-7). Jewish traditions say that the pilgrims to the Jerusalem Temple purified themselves here and climbed the ancient steps from Siloam to the Temple. The pool is connected to the streams of Gihon (see earlier posts) via a tunnel (II Chron. 32:30, 2 Kings 18:17) also known "the king's aqueduct" (Ezra 2:14). The fall of Gihon to the pool is so slight and gentle that Prophet Isaiah compares the House of David to "the waters of Siloe, that go with silence" (8:6). The tower "in Siloe", (Luke 13:4) was probably near the pool and the whole vicinity near the pool was called the "the gate of the fountain" (Nehemiah 2:14). The pool is also known as Virgin Mary's fountain.
