Bethphage-starting point for Jesus' triumphal entry to Jerusalem
Bethphage means “house of the unripe fig”. Its the the place from where disciples brought the donkey on which Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday (Matt. 21:1; Mark 11:1; Luke 19:29). Also the place where Jesus cursed a fig tree with leaves and no fruit (Mark 11:12). Today, there are two churches commemorating the incident, a Franciscan (catholic) church and a beautiful Greek Orthodox Church up a hill.
