The Birth Place of Virgin Mary and the house of St. Anne and St. Joachim

Christian traditions assign at least three places to Virgin Mary's birth, viz. Zippori, Bethlehem and Jerusalem. In 5th century AD, the empress Eudoxia built a church here at the birth place of Virgin Mary. Traditions also assert this place as the house where Joacim and Anne (Parents of Virgin Mary) spent their old age. In 1889, a crypt was discovered here which was accepted as the burial place St. Anne or the garden where both Anne and Joachim were laid to rest. Another crypt was identified near Anne's tomb and is supposed to be the birth place of Mary. Today, you can see two chapels one above the other. The upper one for Anne and Joachim and the lower one is where Virgin Mary is supposedly born.
