Ecco Homo Arch

The place where Christian traditions remember the trial of Jesus before Pilate, when he presented Christ to the people and said "Behold the Man" (in Latin, Ecce Homo, John 19:5). The structure what you see today was erected as a triple Arch by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, a gate to the plaza in Aelia Capitolina. The new Jerusalem that Hadrian built in 135 AD on the ruins of the city destroyed by Titus in 70 AD, was named as Aelia Capitolina. Largest of these arches (central portion) is still visible facing the Via Dolrosa. The smaller northern section of the Arch is however inside the Basilica of Ecce Homo.
