Pater Noster (Our Father) Church, Mt Olives (see Luke 11:1-4 and Matthew 6: 9-13).

The Church stands on the traditional site where Jesus taught "Our Father thou art in heaven" (Latin: "Paternoster qui est in coelis"). Popularly known as the Lord's Prayer, it is the most famous christian prayer. The first church was built by Emperor Constantine over a 1st century cave where traditions say Jesus taught the prayer (one of the four churches constructed by the first Christian Roman emperor in the Holy Land). The church has been recorded as early as 364 AD by a pilgrim called Egeria. It was destroyed by the Persians in 614, and rebuilt by crusaders in 1152.

The Crusader church was again destroyed in 1345 by the Mamlukes. Finally, Princesse de la Tour d'Auvergne, founded a Carmelite convent here in 1872. She lies buried here in 1957, long after her death. In 1910, the Byzantine foundations over the cave were found and a modern church was built in 1915. Unfortunately, I missed the first century cave on which the original church was built. Today, the church displays Lord's Prayer in several languages on its walls. However, I don't know exactly in how many languages the prayer is displayed, as various sources indicate the number ranging from 60 to 140! There were even plaques in braille for the blind!
