Russian Orthodox Church of Mary Magdalene, Mt Olives.
Though this church is not associated with any Biblical event, its beautiful seven onion-shaped golden domes sparkling in the sun, stand as a landmark in Jerusalem's sky line. The church was built by the Russian Tsar Alexander III in 1888. The church is open to public only on Tuesday and Thursday, only for a short time. Hence, not many get a chance or rather put an effort to visit the church. However, beautiful gardens and interior of church with glossy icons, wall paintings and relics of Mary Magdalene makes the place worth a visit. The church also has the tombs of Tsar Alexander's mother, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth, who was killed in the Russian revolution of 1917 and the Princess Alice of Greece (Queen Elizabeth's mother-in-law), who harbored Jews during the Nazi occupation of Greece.
