The Struthion (Sparrow) Pool
A canal built in 2nd century BC (by Hasmoneans), that provided water to the Jerusalem Temple. Later King Herod (1st cent BC), converted into a moat and a water reservoir around Antonia Fort (where Christian tradition says Jesus was judged by Pilate). Hadrian turned this pool into a cistern (2nd century AD). Today, the Ecce Homo convent is constructed above the remains of the cistern.
