The Eliahu (Elijah) Hanavi (the Prophet) Talmud Torah Congregation and the Cave of Elijah
This synagogue was the first of 4 to be built. The name Eliahu is associated with this synagogue due an interesting Jewish tradition associated with this place: the community of Jews in the city was once so small that they could not even make up a Minyan (Minimum 10 men are required for holding services in a Synagogue). Once on a Yom Kippur day (the holiest day for Jews) there were just 9 available men and wonderfully an old man joined them to fulfill services to be done and he vanished after the closing prayer. Only, then did the 9 realise that the Prophet Elijah was one of them!
