The Hurva Square and Synagogues (Hurva and Ramban), Jewish Quarter
Ramban Synagogue was built in 1400 in a stable brought from an Arab landlord. Later a mosque was constructed here (whose minarets are still visible today) and in 1588 Jews were banned from using the Synagogue, only to be back in use after 380 years in 1967!. Hurva Synagogue was Jerusalem's major Synagogue in 19th century. During the Arab-Israeli conflicts, the whole synagogue was burnt and subsequently dynamited and what left was just ruins (Hurva = ruins in Hebrew). The complex is still under renovation and thus I couldn't see the interior.
