St: Catherine Church, Bethlehem

It is from here that the live telecast of Bethlehem's Midnight Christmas Mass is broad casted worldwide. This Roman Catholic of St. Catherine of Alexandria was built in 1882 on the ruins of a Crusader church (12th cent AD). A narrow stairway inside the church leads to a complex of ancient caves and rock-cut chambers, which contain a number of chapels and tombs dedicated to people like St: Jerome and the infants slain by King Herod at the time of Christ's birth.
