The Holy Bible mentions two Sochohs. One is near Hebron (Joshua 15:48) and the other in the Elah Valley (Joshua 15:35). Tel Sochoh obviously is the later one. The Philistines camped between and Azekah in the Elah Valley before the legendary encounter of David and Goliath occurred (1 Samuel 17:1). Later, King Rehoboam fortified the place (2 Chronicles 11:7). Bible also mentions that Philistines occupied Sochoh temporarily by the in the time of King Ahaz (2 Chronicles 28:18).
